NO-TILL FARMING

Daniel Mays of Frith Farm in Scarborough is a leader in No-till practices and lends a hand to help other farmers convert their fields to this eco-friendly way of farming which minimizes soil disturbance, enriching soil biodiversity and reducing the need for fertilizers.

ICE HARVEST IN SOUTH BRISTOL
Nominated 2021

Ice harvesting was a thriving industry in 19th century New England. Using large, jagged-toothed saws, workers would cut heavy blocks from frozen rivers, lakes and ponds, pack it in sawdust and sell it around the world. Then came electric refrigeration, and ice-cutting became all but obsolete. But there are still a few places where the tradition is carried on.

THE ART VAN

Out and About with The Art Van 
It's not just about the art! The Art Van program is a mobile art therapy program, led by Art Therapist Jamie Silvestri, providing an open, very caring and supportive space to help youth and adults problem-solve. Art Van keeps the arts rolling!

BEEKEEPING
Nominated 2023

Learn about beekeeping in Maine by master beekeeper, Rick Cooper, as he opens a hive to show us the queen and her brood. Brian Mason of Spicer Bees hands out Bee packages to customers excited to get their hive installed in their backyard. Whether it's for the honey, garden pollination, or the love of the hum, Beekeeping has many sweet rewards.

WICKS FORGE
Nominated 2022

Meet a third-generation blacksmith, Nicolas Wicks Moreau, as he explains how he uses his forge to heat up, bend and shape metal into beautiful, functional art. His grandfather and great-grandfather have been in the metal trade since the early 1900s, training welders in support of the war effort during WWII. Wicks Forge continues on to this day using the techniques that are hundreds of years old.

ROLLER DERBY

Maine has a vibrant roller derby scene, with mostly all-women teams competing throughout the state, New England and beyond. Learn more about this fast-paced, strategic sport, and why it has become so popular for both skaters and spectators.

BRUNSWICK PAINTED STREET PIANOS
Nominated 2018

Learn about the artists who painted and decorated the beautiful, colorful pianos located on the streets in downtown Brunswick. These pianos are available for anyone to play anytime 24/7 throughout the summer months.

CONTRADANCING IN MAINE
Nominated 2017
Swing your feet and do-si-do as Dugan Murphy and Kim Roberts take turns calling the dance with traditional music played by Greg and Jessie Boardman as well as the band Henry Road.

THE MAINE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME

Nominated 2016
The first three performers inducted into the museum included Dick Curless, Ken Mackenzie and Hal Lone Pine. Hear music and stories about the history of Maine country and bluegrass music told by fellow inductees Slim Andrews, Denny Breau, Tommy Thompson, Ken Brooks and Joe Kennedy.
